PSALM 27: 1-4  |  Sing Psalms  |  Tune: Argyle

PRAYER
  • Adoration (Praising God for who He is and what He is like/His attributes),

  • Thanksgiving (Giving thanks to God for all He has given and continues to give)
  • Supplication (Requesting His help, presence, leading and provision – especially for the people of God in our time of worship on the Lord’s Day)

CONFESSION OF SIN
“Our God and Saviour, We come before you today as foolish sheep whose natural inclination is to wander far from you. You have set your love upon us, chosen us, and saved us, but we find it hard to trust you and often choose instead to run to our own wisdom and understanding. You lead us in green pastures for your own name’s sake, but we reject the feast that you lay before us and try frantically to fill ourselves up with things that cannot satisfy. You lead us by still waters to restore our souls, yet we recklessly dabble with strong currents of temptation and are easily swept away by torrents of sinful cravings. Have mercy upon us, we pray. Create in us a pure heart and renew a right spirit with us. Forgive our many sins and lead us in the everlasting way, in Jesus’s Name, Amen.”

ASSURANCE OF GOD’S PARDON
“But he was pierced for our transgressions; he was crushed for our iniquities; upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace, and with his wounds we are healed.” Isaiah 53:5

SCRIPTURE READING  |  Revelation: 3:14-22

HOME WORSHIP  |  19th April

4/18/2020

CALL TO WORSHIP  |  Psalm 91:1-2; 9-10)

PSALM 23  |  Scottish Psalter  |  Tune: Crimond

PRAYER
  • Adoration (Praising God for who He is and what He is like/His attributes),
  • Confession (Confessing our sins to God)
  • Thanksgiving (Giving thanks to God for all He has given and continues to give)
  • Supplication (Requesting His help, presence, leading and provision – especially for the people of God in our time of worship on the Lord’s Day)

CONFESSION OF SIN
Our Father in heaven, in this bitter season which you have ordained, we acknowledge that our greatest need is to be still and humble before you, to turn from our wicked ways and to hunger and thirst after Christ and His righteousness. Yet we confess that our tendency is to seek comfort in earthly pleasures and trust in our own capabilities, whilst neglecting the grace of repentance and the gift of prayer. Turn us away from the emptiness of vain things and forgive our unbelief. Help us to “discern this time” and to number our days that we might get a heart of wisdom - and fill us with Your Spirit, that we might live distinct, fruitful and God-glorifying lives. For we ask it all in the name of our Saviour and Lord, Jesus Christ, Amen.

ASSURANCE OF GOD’S PARDON
“Therefore, brothers, since we have confidence to enter the holy places by the blood of Jesus, by the new and living way that he opened for us through the curtain, that is, through his flesh, and since we have a great priest over the house of God, let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, with our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water. Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who promised is faithful.” (Hebrews 10:19-23)

SCRIPTURE READING  |  Revelation: 3:7-13

  • God would have mercy on our land, granting spiritual renewal and revival to His bride.
  • Our Government would make wise decisions in the coming weeks and months, particularly concerning when to allow a gradual return to “normal life”.

  • Question 1: What is your only comfort in life and death?
  • Answer: “That I am not my own, but belong with body and soul, both in life and in death, to my faithful Saviour Jesus Christ. He has fully paid for all my sins with his precious blood, and has set me free from all the power of the devil. He also preserves me in such a way that without the will of my Heavenly Father not a hair can fall from my head; Indeed, all things must work together for my salvation. Therefore, by his Holy Spirit he also assures me of eternal life and makes me heartily willing and ready from now on to live for him.”

PRAISE  |  In Christ Alone

In Christ alone my hope is found,
He is my light, my strength, my song
This Cornerstone, this solid Ground
Firm through the fiercest drought and storm.
What heights of love, what depths of peace
When fears are stilled, when strivings cease
My Comforter, my All in All
Here in the love of Christ I stand.

In Christ alone! - who took on flesh,
Fullness of God in helpless babe.
This gift of love and righteousness,
Scorned by the ones He came to save
Till on that cross as Jesus died,
The wrath of God was satisfied
For every sin on Him was laid
Here in the death of Christ I live.

There in the ground His body lay,
Light of the world by darkness slain:
Then bursting forth in glorious day
Up from the grave He rose again
And as He stands in victory
Sin's curse has lost its grip on me,
For I am His and He is mine
Bought with the precious blood of Christ

No guilt in life, no fear in death,
This is the power of Christ in me
From life's first cry to final breath,
Jesus commands my destiny
No power of hell, no scheme of man,
Can ever pluck me from His hand
Till He returns or calls me home
Here in the power of Christ I'll stand.

BENEDICTION
“For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
Romans 8:38-39

CONFESSION OF SIN  |  Read Matthew 8:19-20
“Our Gracious God and Father in heaven,

We are eager to declare our willingness to go where you command and follow wherever you lead. Yet we confess that we are weak and fickle, easily distracted and often quick to follow our sinful hearts instead. We lack spiritual mindedness, the wisdom that comes down from heaven and too often resort to the thinking and the patterns of a fallen world. In your mercy, forgive our many sins. Teach us what it means to take up our cross daily and follow you. Help us put to death the desire to control our own lives in both the present and the future. Show us the emptiness of things, the shallowness of man’s applause and the offensiveness of pride. Fill us with such a burning passion for your glory that we will suffer any loss, ridicule, inconvenience, or cost, in order to hear your name praised in every land, from the rising of the sun to the place where it sets.

For we ask these things in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord,

Amen.”

ASSURANCE OF PARDON
“If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”
1 John 1:8-‐9

SCRIPTURE READING  |  Revelation 3:1-‐6; 1 Corinthians 3:10-‐15

RECORDED SERMON  |  “Sardis: Renowned but dead”  |  Rev. Paul Gibson
PRAYER OF INTERCESSION
Pray that:
  • God would grant grace, wisdom and discernment in the church throughout the nations, such that she would: love what He loves; hate what He hates; live by His commandments; worship Him In Spirit and Truth and be devoted to His means of grace.
  • All Christians would view these days as an opportunity to be fervent in prayer and to meditate on God’s word.  That whilst we are in virtual “lock‐down” and services are cancelled, Christians would come to have a new-found appreciation for the assembly of God’s people on the Lord’s Day (Psalm 42:4).
  • God in His mercy would grant repentance and spiritual revival to our nation and throughout the world.
  • Those in Government would be kept strong and given the wisdom to rule well and make sound decisions.
  • Those working in healthcare would be kept healthy and given all of the skill, wisdom and strength they need to care for the sick and the dying.
  • Those who have lost friends and relatives through Covid-19 would know the comfort of God’s common grace and that by His saving grace, they would come to a saving knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ. Pray especially for the families of Rev. Derek Prime and Rev. John J. Murray - men of God who recently went to be with the Lord. We thank God for their respective ministries.
  • Rev. David Carmichael and his congregation ‐ Abbeygreen Church in Lesmahagow - would know God’s blessing and His peace having departed the Church of Scotland and come into the Free Church.

PSALM 119(5)  |   Sing Psalms  |  Tune – Maryton   (see the tune in the Sing Psalms App for Psalm 119(3)

BENEDICTION
“May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope, this day and evermore, Amen.”

“Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days you shall labor, and do all your work, but the seventh day is a sabbath to the LORD your God…For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested on the seventh day. Therefore the LORD blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy.”
